Siemens to Help Protect New Clinton Center and Library
with Advanced Fire Protection, Emergency Evacuation and Security Technology
LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Jul 12, 2004 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- When the nation's newest
and most technologically sophisticated presidential center and library opens
in November, it will include an integrated, state-of-the-art
fire-protection, voice evacuation and security system provided by Siemens
Building Technologies, Inc.
In its contract to protect the new William J. Clinton Presidential Center,
Siemens is providing its XLSV fire protection and evacuation system, which
has a detection monitor so sensitive that it is guaranteed to distinguish
non-threatening deceptive phenomena such as cigarette smoke or car exhaust
from actual fire hazards.
With advanced digital technology for emergency voice evacuation and
sprinkler monitoring, the fire system includes an instant communications
link to the local fire department and a designated refuge area for the
physically challenged to facilitate emergency rescue. Wired into the
center's main public address system, it also will serve as the audio system
that provides everyday paging, communication and programmed background
music.
Digitally integrated with the fire protection system, Siemens'
state-of-the-art security system utilizes the most advanced technology
available for security access, controls and intrusion detection, with closed
circuit TV monitoring throughout both buildings of the Clinton center and
its parking lot.
"Fire safety and building security are obviously critical issues at a
facility that will attract thousands of visitors and dignitaries and hold
thousands of volumes of important historical records," says Michael Saville,
system sales, Siemens. "The center's design reflects the Clinton
Administration's legacy as a bridge to the 21st Century, and the
technological components of the building need to fit that model as well."
Located in the 30-acre William Jefferson Clinton Park along the Arkansas
River in downtown Little Rock, the Clinton Center is a $160 million complex
that will house the largest archival collection in American Presidential
history. The two-building complex also will include a museum and educational
research facilities.
The main building, which takes the form of a glass bridge symbolizing
President Clinton's theme of "Building a Bridge to the 21st Century," is
designed by award-winning architect James Polshek and his firm, Polshek
Partnership of New York. Adjacent to the main building will be a restored
1899 passenger train depot, which will serve as the University of Arkansas
Clinton School of Public Service. The restoration is being conducted by a
team of Arkansas architects headed by the Polk Stanley Yeary firm of Little
Rock.
Grand opening events for the Clinton Center are scheduled for the week of
November 14-18.
