Driving Green, A tale of SUV’s … and Wanna be’s …”

As Ford (NYSE: F) posts profits and warns about future earnings we also hear simultaneously that Ford gave Paris Hilton a new Ford Hybrid and she is now going green to save the environment. Fresh out of jail for a DUI she will now be influencing all the Paris wanna be’s to go green. Apparently she is planning to replace her gas-consuming Range Rover SUV with her newly gifted Ford hybrid.
She was quoted as saying - "I'm getting a car from Ford, a hybrid one. They gave me one. So, I think driving hybrid cars is the new way to go, and recycling."
So all of the worry of how to convert the masses to go green – debating what is the magic price of gas to turn consumers to eco friendly cars has now been answered – the lemmings will follow Paris to greener pastures- This may ironically drive Ford future earnings.
As one of my associates summed it up- “That’s brilliant and f*##’d up all at the same time.”
Maybe as Paris accepted the Ford hybrid car she had not heard the news that luxury high performance car maker Porsche, had demonstrated this week in Stuttgart a Cayenne SUV hybrid prototype, showing what the company will offer to consumers by the end of the decade.
Oh wait Paris - that’s a decade away…
Porsche is targeting average fuel consumption figures of 9.8 liters/100 kilometers in the New European Driving Cycle and about 24 miles per gallon in the US FTP cycle for the Cayenne Hybrid, and future developments may allow Porsche engineers to push towards average fuel consumption of approximately 26 miles per gallon).
The Cayenne Hybrid will feature a full-hybrid design where the hybrid module (clutch and electric motor) is positioned between the combustion engine and the transmission rather than having the hybrid drivetrain branching output along various lines and in various directions via a planetary gearset.
Coordinating the car's three main components - the combustion engine, the electric motor and the battery - is the Hybrid Manager. The Hybrid Manager, which oversees some 20,000 data parameters as compared to only 6,000 data parameters for a conventional engine, is said to be one of the most powerful technologies found in any hybrid vehicle.
